Taekwondo 25/8

The goal with Taekwondo is to earn a yellow belt. I'm not a "martial arts" kind of guy, so this will really be a challenge! The first training session was really tough! I realized quite fast that I'm stiff as a board and for taekwondo you need to be really flexible.

My trainer Maxwel and I in our outfits. Max came second in the World championship a few years ago - so he REALLY knows taekwondo!

After a few classes I quickly got better and now I can brag about a mean roundkick. After every class Max massages me. It hurts bad, but I wouldn't be able to move the day after if he didn't do it. We also talk about the mindset of martial arts, it is a very disciplined sport and you should not be angry while fighting. Total focus is needed in a fight and you need to be very strategic. This is very interesting and something I need to learn by practicing the moves and the mindset. I'm starting to think that I will learn a lot through Taekwondo!

Football

The tryouts for football started. It's going to be a tough week! There are lots of players interested, but only 40 can earn a spot on the varsity and junior varsity teams. I'm determined to be one of them, even though I hope for a spot on the JV team. Varsity might take up a little too much of my time. I feel a bit worried that I might not make it, there is a lot of good players around. I'm, however, determined that I will give all I got on the tryouts!

CAS BLOG

Today, I'm starting my CAS for the IB program in international school of Kenya. This is my third year in ISK and I've been doing some CAS before, but not really to this extent. Even more important is that I have not blogged before, so it is a challenge. I have a pretty good idea about what I'm going to be involved in and I've been planning it all summer.
For Action I'm going to try out for the Junior Varsity Football team. I love football, and even if I haven't played a lot I always watch it on TV. I'm a die hard Chelsea fan and always try to watch their games.
For the time when there is no football, I'm going to try Taekwondo. It's easy for me, because my sister and my mom has a trainer coming over two times a week. It looks quite hard, but they tell me it's going to help out with my football game.
For service I'm going to help raise money for Excellent Care Center and School in the Mathare slums. This is a project my moms friend was a bit involved in, and when she moved back to Sweden she suggested that I should "take over". I hope I can do well! I always love visiting the school and I've been there a few times already. MUN (Model United Nations) has always sounded very interesting and this is another thing I'm willing to try.
I'm also going to help the Swedish Society with the events they perform to gather the Swedish community in Kenya and to raise money for development projects in Kenya.
For creativity I'm making photo books for the babies in the orphanage the "Nest". I know a few friends that are adopted from other countries and they are curious of where they came from. I'm thinking that when these kids are adopted, I'll give the books with photos from when they were babies, so they can look at them growing up.
These are my plans for now, and hopefully it is going to be enough for this year.
Enjoy reading my blog!
